Hello,

I am migrating from SGP to N.I.N.A. and had a question about the Advanced Sequencer. If the sequence does not complete at the end of the night, is the progress saved? For example, when I restart the sequence the next night, will it go to the point in the imaging loop where it stopped the previous night or will it restart the imaging loop from the beginning? And I assume the previous startup instructions (warm camera, unpack scope, slew and center etc.) will execute regardless?

My understanding is that if you save the sequence and it stops for whatever reasons it will restart with the same parameters and counter value that it had when it was stopped.  More inference from my side since it is normally me who does the stopping so I have no idea what it would do in other circumstances (say time limit, prevented meridian flipping or hard stops).

You said it right, you "restart" the sequence once it is "stopped". Everything else would not make sense as you don't want to cool the cam over the day etc.
If you use loop conditions well and save the sequence, there is no problem to "reuse" ist the other night with some tweaks (e.g. you have enough Ha and only want OIII etc.).

Best
Mike

Thanks, guys. I would have assumed this to be the case, since it is rare for an entire project to be completed in a single night. My specific use case would be to save the json file at the end of the night, shut down the computer, then restart the next time I want to image and reload the in progress sequence. I would expect then that the sequence executes the startup and preparation conditions and jumps into the imaging loop at the point it left off the previous night.

Hi @Arun H. I have just switched to N.I.N.A too, how are you finding it? After just one imaging session I found it so easy to use, amazing piece of software and the support you get on the discord server is incredible.

Thanks @andrea tasselli and @CCDMike  for the responses about the advanced sequencer, this is something I haven't used yet so good to understand how it would work over multiple nights.

@AstroFckups - I would like to get several imaging sessions under my belt before forming a final opinion. So far, my impressions are very positive. The interface and workflow seem well thought out, the learning curve is not steep, and the Advanced Sequencer has very nice functionality. Several interesting and potentially useful plugins too. I'm also evaluating Voyager which has a reputation for stability, but I like NINA's UI better. If NINA proves to be stable across multiple sessions, I'll very likely stay with it. I've been using SGP for years, but they've gone to a paid model now, and it seems their development has stagnated, so I'm not too excited about subscribing to something that the developers are not really developing.

In case you don't know about it, the developer and several plug-in devs are almost always on the discord channel and they are always helpful. This is the thread specific to the adv sequencer https://discord.com/channels/436650817295089664/769608646215598101

Thanks, @Stuart Taylor.  I am aware of discord, but am not too keen on joining yet another social media channel. If I stick with NINA, may change my mind about this.

Based on what I have seen, if you stop the sequence during the night and start it again it will pick up where it left off.  But if you shut down NINA, reopen and reload the .json file, the sequence will start at the beginning.  Note that there is a plug-in that allows you to pick up your file numbering where you left off the night before.  I'd love to learn that I'm mistaken about this; if so, please LMK.
