Cigarette Lighter Power? What about normal wall plugs? Generic equipment discussions · schmaks · ... · 7 · 184 · 0

Hi there,

I was able to find a power cord for my mount that plugs into the wall but now see that the dew controller I'd like has a cigarette lighter as well.

Is this the norm? Do I really need to get a power converter to be able to plug my dew controller into an extension cord? I can make this work but don't care for the bulk it brings.

Curious how others are handling this. I'll do most my shooting from my home (non-mobile) setup.

Thanks!

I am wondering if I am better to get a portable power tank to power the dew heater and just plug that into the house? Then I have a power tank if I need to go mobile?

I run an extension lead from the house out to where I set up the mount. To deal with all the cigarette lighter plugs I bought a couple of converters that allow me to plug into a normal socket.

Hi,

My set up is 800 meters from a power socket, so power (battery) has always been an issue and a cause of only 2-3 hours camera capture at a session ( i have 2x dew heaters, 2 cameras, mount, computer, filter wheel etc etc). I did a lot of research and invested in a TRACER Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery pack : 12V 24Ah. This, touch wood, seems to have helped a lot (pity about UK weather though). One large drain on power seems to be camera coolers..

Hope this helps

Clear Skies
