Hello,

https://www.teleskop-express.de/shop/product_info.php/info/p5064_TS-Optics-12--f-4-UNC-Newtonian-Telescope-with-Quartz-main-Mirror-and-Carbon-Tube.html

Has anyone experience of one of these telescopes or similar? Are they good quality optically? Also any alternatives?
I will use primarily for imaging so would include a coma corrector, I have an EQ8 mount.

Many thanks,
Rob

I would suggest looking into something a little smaller and of better quality. TS makes the ONTC Newtonians that are better designed for imaging. Also in the same category would be the Lacerta Photonewton which I personally think are slightly better and come equipped with an excellent focuser.

Hi

After many discution with many shop and TS about UNC, i have buying a ONTC by TS.
The fixation of primary miror it isn’t a good quality on UNC. And it’s impossible to change this piece before to buy.

i just trying in observation my ONTC and ir’s very nice. I think i will re-works the primary miror by a specialist but it’s nice.

if you can, buy a ONTC. It’s easy to move primary miror to use a ASA reducer and coma like evolution.

i hope i can help you (and sorry for my english smile

See ya

Thank you both for the very helpful comments. The 305mm ONTC may be a little out of my price range so maybe I'll consider the 250mm ONTC.

Thanks,
Rob

Consider the image pixel scale in combination with your camera. What camera will you be using?

I currently use a 14" f5.2 reflector with an Atik 383l+ binned 2x2 which gives me a scale of 1.17"/pixel. The 14" is just too heavy for the EQ8 with a long tube, I can get up to 20min subs but that's only on a steady night. I wanted a scope that was a shorter tube but still with a reasonable fl for visual use, after 35 years with  a 14" its a hard decsion to swop to a smaller telescope ☺

The 12" f4 would give 1.85 "/pixel which should still be ok I think?

Thanks,,
Rob
