I am in the process of figuring out which set up will work for me and within my budget of under 2grand. My interest are planets astrophotography  and just enjoy the sites that are out there. Here are some of the setups I have been looking at. Celestron NexStar SE8” , Meade LX85 8” Newtonian Reflector  and Sky watcher Espirit 80mm Ed Triplet Refractor. Looking at the reviews it’s amazing how you get such opposite opinions  I’m hoping that I get feedback on here to help me figure what would be a good starter that I can expand on with accessories. My top pick so far was the Celestron SE8 as of now it’s in back order for 4 to 6 months.I will appreciate any help or suggestions I get from on here.

Of the 3 options the one I'd go for is the Celestron one. The 3rd is a waste of money for planetary imaging. And the 2nd you'll probably get a better deal (i.e. larger aperture) with other choices for newtonian reflectors. A 10" f/6 newton should serve you well and be light enough to be mounted on a lower range mount.

Hello Ron,

By coincidence, I am also looking for a scope to sit on my old Atlas EQ-G mount for lunar and planetary imaging.
The result of my recent poll posted here favors the Celestron C8 XLT over the Vixen VC200L and an 8" RC.
Since my dealer in Tokyo stocks the C8, I may go for it after reading a few more reviews.
The obstruction of an 8 inch Newtonian is smaller, but the C8 weighs less, has the shorter tube and sports a longer
native focal length which can eliminate need for barlows.

Anyway, a telescope is always a compromise, while peoples' opinions vary like the star Mira.
The real pain in the neck is that you can't try-before-buy online.

All the very best,
Robert

Thanks for the advice while waiting for the Celestron to be back in stock I purchased a Celestron power seeker 127eq I figured I can play with this. This will give me a head start on learning to navigate the skys manually.
Thanks again for the feed back
