Rules of the contest|
1) Broadband data only
2) You must acquire and process the data–no professional services. If you have your own remote UNMANNED observatory, that's fine
3) Aperture range: up to 12 inches
4) To post, click on full resolution version of your image on your Astrobin webpage, click copy image then paste the image onto this forum page. You must include the name of the cluster, the aperture of the scope, and your name. AS WELL AS THE LINK TO THE IMAGE ON YOUR ASTROBIN PAGE. Use the next number available–so it the image before yours was #9, call your image #10. Honor system folks–only post images you have collected and processed.
5) Any size FOV or resolution is permitted, but keep in mind that only the target is being judged, not the entire image, so if you have a 10 panel mosaic that contains a globular cluster–only the cluster counts! This will help equalize images taken with a full frame sensor vs a small chip.
6) This is a contest to determine the best image–not one that takes into consideration such things as–"that image is a bit better–but considering this one was taken with a 3" scope and that one a 12" scope–it gets my vote". There are an infinite ways to do it, and the simplest is just to decide on the image based on the image quality. Its a flat playing field–teh images have to stand up on their own, not with qualifiers.
This will not be perfect. I think the images will not be live–so no zooming or full resolution, which is a shame, because one consideration should be how well the image holds up to full resolution. I could be wrong about this, we'll see. I think doing it this way is better than posting a link to the image on your Astrobin page–as then people will see a lot more than just the image. But I could be wrong about that too–we will have to see how it goes and make adjustments as needed.
Voting will take place after the contest is closed. The contest will be closed at 12:00 am on July 13th. Starting at midnight, Friday the 12th (13th technically), voters may vote 1 time for the globular cluster they feel is the best. Judging will take place for 1 week. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place images will be announced on Friday, July 19th–though you will be able to figure it out as the votes will be visible.
Voters–Please include the Image #, Title, Scope aperture and images Name so there will no confusion.
Judges–for voting purposes only find the image on the imager's Astrobin page using the provide link and use full resolution or normal viewing (which is bigger than the copied image) to inspect the image. ONLY VIEW THE IMAGE LABELED "FINAL" if there are revisions.
PLEASE: lets keep this post for the contest entries and judging only. I will create a second thread for comments and discussion entitled ASTROBIN IMAGING CONTEST #1 GLOBULAR CLUSTERS: DISCUSSION. I would like to be able to say that the two threads will be side by side on the list of threads–but I can't promise that. This will make it much easier to view, judge and count
Good Luck. If you have any questions, or if I have forgotten something important, please post to teh discussion page. I will be monitoring it

I hope you inquire and ask for approval with Salvatore before post this, would be most impolite and not appropriate to turn Astrobin into own personal contest site without him being consulted and approve.|
Based on past this seem very bad idea indeed and my preference would be Salvatore just close this idea off now.
SGL have contests, if anyone can start AB contest in short time will be total chaos and cause more bad feelings.

I ask this question? Why on earth is a IMOD or Likes or TP So important to all of you. I am here to learn and post my images , I am far from being a professional photographer but I enjoy what I do. You all sound like a bunch of high school kids who didn’t make the football team or the cheerleader squad. Please people be proud of your images no matter what other people think and do this for self gratification. There’s a whole subject on likes and the same that I think is ridiculous. If your not here to learn and post your beautiful images then why on earth are you here. Just to win a contest ? Wow if no one notices you here and no badges are given to you it makes no difference if your goal is to be an armature astronomer.|

Thanks, I deleted the 1st one and kept this one. I assume that's OK?

KuriousGeorgeThe rule is not new–it was assumed that everyone would understand that there was only one entry per person. Some things should not have to be spelled out–If revisions are not allowed–why would multiple entries?
Technically–you must keep your first entry–not your second. Otherwise, people could keep entering images until they get one they like. This applies to me as well–I would love to use my revised M13–but I cant–I must use the version that I posted. initially.
So you really should use M92–not M13.

Very funny Rodd. You may disqualify me.

Rodd DryfoosSorry but I don't think you should assume people would know an unwritten rule. Also I don't see why you can't submit a revision so long as it is posted before the voting. Also not written in the rules.
These things should be clear from the outset, not announced part way through.
Also what is wrong with posting a better image or revision so long as it is your own work.
Neither of these things were clear to me and I already revised my image. You can erase me from the contest if you want to be difficult, but sorry these things should have been made clear from the start. If I get erased then this is not a contest I would want to be involved in nor will take part again if you are going to move the goal posts and then get strict about it.
It would be better to let it ride this time, and learn to be clearer on the rules for the next contest rather than antagonising the current contestants.
By the way, I did not have to admit I revised my image, but I felt the need to make a point about unwritten rules being enforced.
