Bradley Watson:
Does anyone know if the Baader neodymium moon and sky glow filter is any good?

I've been using it in lieu of a luminance filter on my Newtonian for a while now and have been very happy with it. Here are some images I've done with it:

All were taken with a ZWO 1600 MM-C, ZWO RGB filters (sometimes an Ha filter) and the Baader Neodymium Moon & Skyglow under the Bortle 7-8 skies of suburban Philadelphia.

The Baader M&S is my go to filter on the 800 Edge.   It lets in a lot more light than a CLS  and blocks some of the glow from moonlight.  Compare my exposure times with similar images to really appreciate the advantage of this filter.

I do have that Baader Neodymium Moon & Skyglow, but i felt like i didn't like the result, and i was going to sell it, but maybe i will keep it for a while and using it for RGB set i will buy later, so i can give it a try again and see, if it will do nice job instead of regular L then it will be a keeper.

I’m in Bortle 4 so pretty fortunate. I encourage you to heed the advice of Chris.  He is in my humble opinion, a superb practitioner of our craft and what he produces from a highly light polluted environment is nothing short of astonishing.

OK, thanks Chris. I have ordered this filter so am trying it anyway. You mention you live under abortle 7/8 sky but do you get any gradients in your images that you have to process out at all?

Great images btw, love the detail, colour, contrast and depth.

Thanks for the kind words, Mike!!

I definitely get gradients that I have to process out in my broadband images. I don't get them as much with the RC as I do with the Newt and depending on where I'm shooting in the sky, they can be terribly ugly (low to the south), or barely perceptible (high to the north/zenith). If all I'm doing is southern targets though, it can be tough even determining whether my flats are working or not (i.e., whether to reshoot them).
