What are your best practices when using this camera? For example, imaging mode. Do you use the HDR and LDR modes or Merge Mode, or do you shoot only the HDR using the short exposure combining method? I am also interested in how everyone is taking calibration frames with this camera. I image using the HDR-LDR method for everything. That is, I expose my frame, typically at around 180s to 300s using HDR and then capture both HDR and LDR frames and process them separately in Pixinsight. I use WBP only for calibration and cosmetic correction and do registration and Integration manually. After integration I combine the HDR and LDR frames using HDR Composition. Then I process normally from there. I would like to hear from other KL 4040 users out there.

Hi Michael,
I use the Moravian C4-16000EC (4040 FSI). So far I tested mostly everything. Due to me imaging mostly 30sec sub exposures the method works somewhat as for standard cameras (shoot in HDR mode, have darks in HDR mode etc. ) however thats not a perfect method. For "better" I use SIPS tool for calibration or a PixInsight script for 4040 calibration.

The 4040 sensor is a PITA to calibrate for "pretty images" but when it works it works nicely.

There is also this post by Phillip that goes into much more detail https://www.astrobin.com/forum/c/equipment-forums/gpixel-gsense4040-mono/about-the-calibration-and-usage-of-cameras-with-the-gsense-4040-sensor/
