A new major version of LuckyStackWorker has been released, 6.0.0. LSW in a free and open source application that is used for post-processing planetary/lunar/solar image stacks, resulting from stacking software such as Autostakkert. The key focus is on automating the entire workflow and reducing the required manual work as much as possible.

It is available for Windows, MacOS and Linux from github: https://github.com/w...releases/latest
A user manual can be found here:https://www.wilcokas...ckworker/manual

Compared to the previous version it has many UI improvements, possibilities to sharpen & denoise channels individually and a new switch to automatically normalize the color balance.
If you happen to find any bugs or you have a question, don't hesitate to send me a private message.
It was a lot of coding work but my personal focus for the coming months will be on the planetary season again! Wishing you all a great one as well!
Clear skies,
Wilco.

I guess because it is quite new. I released the 1st version 2 years ago.

The app also matured quite a bit since this year.
In the beginning it probably didn't get a lot of attention because it only had basic features like sharpening and denoising. It mainly served me to save a huge amount of screen time by automating things, and I still used gimp to do the final touch.

Now it is IMO a much more complete app and the only thing I use besides Autostakkert.

tried it, works well

only thing I think would improve it a lot is adding a reset button so that the sliders reset to default

Thanks for the suggestion, and interesting observation also. I guess though that it depends on what you'd consider as being defaults. The app works with profiles for each target object, which differs per user and depends on the equipment used, focal ratio, personal prefs etc.
The dispersion corrector has a reset button, but some other tools like the color balance could use one indeed. I will add that one to my todo list for a next release!

Thanks for the information. I didn't know about this software.
I've just tried it and in my opinion it lacks an ‘Original’ button that would allow you to temporarily return to the image before modifying it.

Thanks for this new major version!
Unfortunately, I cannot launch the Apple Silicon version on my M2 Mac.
Looks like a code signing issue.

I created an issue on your GitHub: https://github.com/wkasteleijn/luckystackworker/issues/10

Tony did you load a 16-bit Tif or Png image stack? If so, I'll send you a private message to check the log file..

Hi Jean-David, as mentioned in the installation instructions the app is unsigned. A certificate costs hundreds of bucks. I am a hobbyist spending a lot of free time on this at free will, but I'm not a philanthropist 😀.
The first time you open the app it will be unblocked by holding the ^ key while clicking the app icon on the launchpad. After that you need to confirm and from that point on it will always run. Thanks for trying it on the M2. I have an intel mac myself so I can't test it on arm architecture. I saw your comments on github, thanks a lot for that and I will look into it.

PSS is a stacking app, while LSW is used for post-processing the stacks produced by PSS (or Autostakkert). I guess you could say it compares to some extend to how people use Registax, but then with options to automate the workflow and spend less time behind the screen.

To give an example: after a night's imaging session it typically takes a while for Autostakkert to run through all the captured SER video's. I then simply press the "Connect to stacking software" button in LSW. It will pick up the produced stacked images and apply all the pre-determined sharpening, denoising and other filter settings for that specific object, and save it in a seperate folder. In the meanwhile I go to bed or have breakfast and coffee in the morning..
So unless you use Winjupos de-rotation, there isn't much left to do once you determined the optimal sharpening, denoising and other settings to apply.
And even with de-rotation it saves me a lot of time because after stacking and processing is done I can determine the best image stacks, use those for de-rotation, and open the de-rotated PNG in LSW for final post-processing.

@Jean-David Gadina It looks like the packager library that I use doesn't create a working .app file for the arm based architecture anymore. It used to work fine though, but thanks for letting me know. I will look into it but it might take some time. I also need an M1/M2 machine to test it, I still have an intel mac myself.

In the meantime, M1/M2 owners can run the app anyway by downloading and installing the intel (x64) version of the app and use Rosetta. I will update the installation instructions.

Thank you for taking the time to explain.Sounds very promising as a Linux user.

yes,the default behaviour is too agressive and i would like to return it to a neutral state and work from there. The tool definetely has massive potential though.

Thanks. I will definitely consider it. There are defaults, but they only serve as an initial example. The idea is that you fine tune these to your own optimal settings (per object).

What I could do (for the next minor release) is to add a button that causes to return to the settings as they were when opening the image stack. What do you think?

As an alternative, what you can already do now is use the "Load profile" button and select the yaml file that is saved along with the processed image result when saving or pressing the Start batch button. That will restore the settings as they were when you saved it.

Ok,that sounds fine as a work around.

In terms of using mono rgb images,Can you explain the process?
Your guides says just load each one one after another, preceding the image choise by selecting the correct channel from the drop down menu before, but i'm having problems getting a colour image.it seems to just  stay the same colour as the last image i selected.

Also, does the software expect the channels to be pre-registered?
At the moment I am doing sharpening in PSS and then registering the channels using siril..

thanks

@daywalker I made a short demonstration video to show how it is done. Make sure to select the desired channel before opening the corresponding mono stack.

The registration is done implicitly when selecting the R, G and B stacks as is shown in the video link above.

@Francis Moreau@daywalker :
I have just released a minor upgrade (6.1.0) that has a new button to revert to the settings as they were when opening the image stack!
I also fixed a few bugs that I came across meanwhile. As always it can be downloaded from the github release page:

I got bored the past few weeks since the weather conditions have been quite bad for any planetary imaging, so I couldn't help myself working on a new release again
The result of that is a new minor version with several new features and bugfixes that got reported by various people.
I hope you like it. As always please don't hesitate to send me a PM on this site if you have any suggestions or find any bug.
As always you can download the app from github:
