Hello all
My question is this. Can you do narrowband imaging with a full spectrum Canon T3i. Is it better than a un modded DSLR ? I’m thinking being my camera sees the entire light spectrum narrowband should come out pretty good. Another question is what filters should I buy clip in or on lens.

Thank you in advance
Chris

Yes, you certainly can.

My image of the horsehead nebula https://www.astrobin.com/392511/?nc=user was taken with just a hydrogen alpha filter (2 inch mounted) in front of my un-modified Nikon D750.  With some longer integration time, good results should be achievable.

Hello Chris,

I use 3 SHO  EOS-CLIP models from Astronomik in 12 Nm.
My camera has been refilter with an Astrodon model in order to better see in H-Alpha.
I can make SHO images with this, less good than monochrom deep sky cameras but good enough ;-)

Try to save and buy a cooled mono, that will open many space doors for you, but sure you can do with full spectrum camera as well, i have many DSLRs but i will never convert any to full spectrum or even mono.

The full spectrum conversion I had done was from Clarence Spencer. He did the Modds on the ISS DSLR camera’s his conversion is nice in respect that after all filters are removed he puts clear quartz glass in its place. I’m ready to send it back to him for the cool heat sync So my  images are not limited to 5 min subs.
Spencer Camera and Photo  in Utah. Check out his website.

Thanks again
Chris
