Is a place for exchange between E-EYE members a good idea?
Yay!
Meh!

Hi all,

I’ve always been frustrated not being able to communicate with my neighbours at E-EYE. It’s not easy to have to go through Jose Luis for emergencies (your neighbour has left his roof open and it’s raining; this has happened a few times), and it’s impossible to exchange in general unless I’ve met in person with people (someone I met there once was developing drivers I’d be interested in now, but I can’t remember who it was).

I’ve therefore created a forum dedicated to E-EYE customers. It’s totally unofficial and isn’t endorsed by E-EYE or E-EYE staff in any way (hence why E-EYE doesn’t appear in the name).

https://fregenalcantina.space

What I’d like it to be there for:
- Communicate about emergencies.
- Connect users for help (e.g. installation, day-to-day issues).
- Exchange information about setups (and show off your gear, I know you want to).
- Welcoming new arrivals.
- Discuss interesting targets.
- Show images, e.g. unfinished.
- Get constructive critiques (this rarely happens on astrobin).
- Link users for collaborations (let’s map the Milky Way!).
- Maybe sell or exhange hardware.

Probably much more I can’t even think of.

Accounts can be for groups or individuals. It’s up to you. I’d prefer individual so it’s easier to communicate with a single person. Maybe we could use the following conventions:
- For people with their own setup, without a group name, create a user with name firstname@surname (e.g. in my case cedric@raguenaud).
- For people sharing a setup, create a user with name name@groupname (e.g. in my case cedric@ngcat or cedric.raguenaud@ngcat).

All must be done in a good spirit, without insults, aggression, or generally behaviour that will ruin everybody’s experience of the forum. We’re here to have fun, even if we disagree about some things. We’re civilised adults.

The forum isn’t public. Only E-EYE customers will be allowed to register. Registrations will require you to load a URL from your setup at E-EYE so I can check you have access to a telescope at there:
https://fregenalcantina.space/check.php?op=check&user=USERNAME
where USERNAME is the username you have chosen.

I’m afraid the official language on the forum will have to be English because that’s the one most will understand to a certain extent.

I expect it to be a fairly low traffic forum. After all, we’re a small finite number of customers.

Please tell me if that’s a bad idea.

Thanks.
