Orion Mosaic

Finally finished up what is becoming my yearly tradition of undertaking a single giant project every winter. Last year it was the Jellyfish, this year I finally got my Orion mosaic. Actually the first time I've shot the Horsehead too, aside from incidental capture in widefields.

I messed up the data entry for my exposures somewhere, total should be about 60 hours, not ~70, but I'm not keen on re-entering 18 night's worth of capture:

Approximate data per each of the 3 panels:
 - About 150 x 300", 50 x 30" 7nm Hα
 - About 120 x 90", 50 x 10" ea/R, G, B
 - 130 x 300", 50 x 30" 7nm Oiii for the M42 region only

Short exposures only taken on M42 and Horsehead panels, middle panel didn't need any HDR work

Wow, amazing project, and amazing image, Brent. Are you considering printing it? Given the depth of the resolution, you could go mighty big.

For sure, both to sell and for my own wall - a local gallery that does prints for me features wood laminate printing, no frame needed and it looks pleasantly minimalist, may consider it for this one. In the past I've avoided prints since until recently none of my images have risen to the level of quality I'd demand for a spot on my own "gallery" but this one turned out pretty well. Its the kind of image where I think I'd be satisfied not shooting Orion for the next year or two, just not worth adding any new data to it unless I make a significant equipment upgrade.

This winter will be for the Rosetta, though Thor's Helmet is my wildcard if I get my hands on an Edge HD
