Alto Saxophone for about six years. I'm not particularly good, but like AP, it's for my own amusement.

What a great thread! Very cool to learn this about fellow AP-nerds. I compose music for a living and since 2004 I've mostly been scoring movies. I started playing piano in 1979 but hated the practicing and was allowed to quit at at the age of 15 in '85, - and that's when I really started playing. From the late eighties and all through the nineties I was in electronica, playing at raves, festivals, doing modern dance collaborations, music for radio theatre, ordinary theatre, TV-series and doing records/gigs with my own act while also programming for others. Even though my biggest wish always was to become an astronaut (hehe) I had film composer at a very close wish number two. So now I'm compensating for not becoming an astronaut by collecting photons from an observatory I've built in the woods. Being out there is medicine for the mind, total solitude and silence under a pitch black sky is very good for inspiration and for giving tired ears a rest. The only problematic thing about the day-job is that it at times can get so intense that I can't go out imaging for months, so I cherish the nights I get very, very much. I look forward to hearing more and seeing your images!

I struggle with synthesizers for more than 40 years now in my home studio. At this moment especially with an Eurorack modular. Making music as background for my photo presentations (most travel and nature photography).

Saxophone for 30 years. Playing professional (jazz) and teaching music. Also doubling on various woodwinds like flute and clarinet and playing piano. Same as in astrophotography: Still trying to get it right one day!

Sixty years playing piano (goodness!) and a lot less playing clarinet, flute and saxophone. Twentyfive years conducting a fifty-piece symphonic concert band.

Hi Astrosicians !

On my side I play bass guitar in a cover R'n B band here in France and I am also currently starting a new punk music project. So when I don't do astro I do music and when I don't play music I do astro, sometimes both when waiting for acquisitions to complete !

Cheers

Orchestral and soundtrack ques created with virtual instruments in the computer. Check out some spacey VR music video pieces made in After Effects (you don't need a VR headset, but if you have one...).

Nice to see some fellow composers on Astrobin! I'm a web developer by trade, but wrote music for film & video games earlier in life. When I was completing my composition degree, my final piece was based on spectroscopy and used audio files generated by NASA where they "sonified" data from solar observations. These days I don't play much (piano) but I work for Canada's largest music store so I'm always surrounded by musicians, who think my new astrophotography hobby is pretty nuts

Greetings, all.

I know this is a pretty old thread, but I'm pretty new to Astrobin.  I am a orchestral conductor.  I conduct two professional, regional orchestras in the U.S., and I've guest conducted in various countries.  All of the travel stopped during this pandemic.  I am fortunate that my orchestras have been able to perform during the pandemic, so I am still working.

I've been doing Astrophotography for about a year.  It has been a wonderful outlet for artistic expression, especially in the early days of the pandemic, when my orchestras were shut down.

This group seems to be a slow burner, but interesting nonetheless. As it's low-traffic I could read all the posts!

I used to play in an acoustic folk-rock group in the 70's, every week in a local pub (in Wales). Guitar and singing on my side. I kept up the guitar/singing for many years afterwards, but these days don't play any more, though I continue singing.

By some accident ("volunteered" by sailing crewmates) I once found myself in front of a large orchestra singing at a venue in Kinsale (Ireland), still in my sailing wets as we'd just walked in; it went down sufficiently well that I had to sing a few more. I was similarly "volunteered" by a Russian colleague to sing in a competition at a birthday party we unwittingly joined at a large restaurant in Baikonur (Kazakhstan), but at least I won the prize (a bottle of vodka and a pink balloon). This came in handy as they ran out of vodka later ;-)

I'm now in a local singing group with a wide, international repertoire (I'm the only non-French in the group, and one of only two bass singers -- due to Covid I've not been there for 18 months and the other bass really misses me ;-) Tomorrow I'll be back!

All my kids are musical, each playing 2 or 3 instruments, and last year I started making guitar pedals for one of them.

cheers,
Richard

Richard Francis:
Tomorrow I'll be back!

I was, and it seems they were glad to have me back (especially the other bass ;-) Many new songs, including: Basque (x2), Occitan/Gascogne, Italian and French. I proposed we expand into some Russian songs (Russians have the best songs, as I recall from dinners which evolved into singing competitions in Moscow) and that seemed to meet with general approval.

I realised I made an error when I said I was the only non-French: there's also a Swiss-German, so we are really cosmopolitan ;-)

cheers,
Richard

Hi all!
I play jazz and Gipsy jazz guitar in 2 bands, in France. Music is Life, Life is Music!

I often think that music and AP are both close ways of expression, and that processing is close to musical arrangement  as well as technical and instrumental progressions are following the same kind of curve :-)

Cheers

Hello,
I'm Jan, I'm from Germany and I'm 35 years old.  I've been a music producer in the electro scene for 12 years now.  I produce trance techno and electro.  I've had a love for space since I was a child.  and for 2 years now I've been active as a hobby astronomer.  I'm looking forward to meeting like-minded people here.

Best regards
