AstroBin approaching its 10 years anniversary: should we celebrate with a new logo? Anything goes · Salvatore Iovene · ... · 6 · 322 · 1

In a bit over a month, AstroBin will reach its tenth year. I would like to celebrate with a new logo since the one we have had all this time (Saturn coming out of a cardboard box...) is probably not that great and it was designed by me and I'm not a designer :-D

I would like to hear your ideas about a new nice logo, and then I can get a professional to draw it, what do you think?

If you have ideas, post them here! 🔥

How about different types of equipemt being thrown into a box?

A simple telescope/camera silhouetted against and astronomical background could work.
Something like this (but simplified): https://sociable.co/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/galaxy-telescope-750x450.jpg

I like the current logo, especially in its black and white form (the white box/black letter A)
But if we need a new logo, I suggest something which will signify the inclusiveness of all forms of astroimaging in the age of social networks.

That's a nice idea, Salvatore! I really like Saturn coming out of a box, it works with the name and the colors are nice. What if you just remaster it? Give it a bit of a modern style? Something like this:
:
This is a drawing of Retroarch, a multi-emulator app for many platforms. Of course this drawing has many details, there's too many things coming out of the box, and for a logo, it would be a bit confusing. You can try to get this kind of style, add more objects (not only saturn), it could be an EQ mount, a cooled camera, some deep sky objects, galaxies, other planets, a telescope... Well, there's many options to choose. I would still keep it simple, but i would add some 5 objects?
Also, I personally enjoy this "saturn coming out of a box" thematic. I think that changing the logo for a galaxy, a telescope, or anything else, would confuse people, some of them couldn't remember this is astrobin or be confused.
Well... that's what i think, clear skies everyone

You could add some motion to the logo. Maybe Saturn or a galaxy moving out of the box.

Well it needs to be very simple - ideally something anyone could doodle and be instantly recognisable.

What message to we want to convey?  What differentiates Astrobin?  For me, it is less than the "bin" nature - after all there are lot of places with astronomy images on line now.

What differentiates Astrobin for me is the quality and/or care taken over the images.  Almost Astronomy as Art.  Something you would want to hang on your wall.

I would favour a logo that re-inforced that theme.

A simple black 3D  rectangle in portrait (or landscape) mode with a bunch of white dots (stars) on it (or recognisable equatorial constellation Orion?) perhaps with a couple of lines converging on a point above it.  This is my attempt at describing a canvas hanging on a wall.

Note that I am not a graphic designer and have no connection with the design world.

I suspect that my ability to come up with good graphic design is much less likely than a graphic designer coming up with a good astrophotograph (since some Astrobin/ers will undoubtedly be graphic designers).
