Hi guys, I wonder as to why some objects get much less attention than others. Looking at Pacman, there are "only" over the 2011 - 2019 period -19 TPs -8 or 9 IOTD This are low figures compared to M101, Andromeda (68 IOTD) or the Coccon to name a few ones. This object range is FL friendly for anything between 400mm - 1000mm Ha and S2 structures are strong, O3 is ok,, a lot of blobs etc etc... Interested in reading you about your opinion. So much more to shoot that time of year maybe? I shot it recently actually. Best one yet but IOTD material? Likely never see any of my shots there lol |

IOTD on astrobin is not really an indicator of much. If you look at most IOTD it seems to be the same people in the same circle most of the time. There are some pretty awesome pics that get looked over for IOTD and top picks and I’ve seen some pretty bad pics as either. |

Putting aside the IOTD stats discussion, I agree with you Axel that this object is a gem. From the aestethical point of view, but also from the astrophysics point of view, with star cluster, boks, stellar winds, pillars,....When I shot this object last year in addition to the normal picture, I had lots of fun reading on it and preparing some alternative views on it (https://www.astrobin.com/dsxb20/ , in case you want to check out). So, this nebula does get attention, but I also believe it deserves more/better..... CS, Guillermo. |

Interesting, currently I am working on a version of this object, I finished the adquisiton time (80h) and now working on the integration and process... but I need some more days to finished |

Alessio Pariani: Great! Beautiful and the best picture of Pac Man NGC 281 has ever been seen! The reason for my seaqul that I hasn't never seen so clear the outside zone of the rims. This very weak nebula parts are powerful. Congratulation, AstroEdy |

Great image, congratulations! I also have the feeling the IOTD and top picks are often biased. But I also understand the difficulties as algorithms can be used to work for you if you put enough effort into it ;) But this discussion most likely will never go away and Astrobin serves for me mainly for inspiration. Cheers! Stephan |

Stephan, My initial post was not about selection bias in the TPn/TP/IOTD process but a genuine and innocent question (I was processing the Pac at that time and looked for image reference : check my gallery) . There have been a few TPs of the Pacman since I opened the thread though giving a little bit of momentum to this cool object. Happy imaging Axel |
