How many AstroBin users are there now? Seems like a lot. Very social.

This search returns all users: https://www.astrobin.com/search/?q=&d=u
1128 pages and 70 users per page. The last page contains 7 users. I.e. 1127*70 + 7 = 78897 users today.
Best regards,

In full transparency, that's a lot of users that created accounts and never used it. Many of them would be spam accounts that didn't actually post any spam so they were never deleted.

The amount of users who posted images is about 20,000.

On a daily basis, there are about 7,000 active users on the website.

If we count non-members, it's about 100,000 visitors every month.

Thanks all!

Salvatore, or anyone, may I ask another? How much do you suppose it has grown say in the last five years? That also seems like a lot.

Sort of. I am slowly writing a book somewhat about dark skies. But mostly I am just wondering for personal reasons. My now 88 year old father was an early amateur astro-photographer starting back in the 70's. I now have has observatory. I wonder how the the amateur group has grown over time.

Your site, AstroBin, Salvatore, seems like a good example of the rather recent and growing popularity. No?

Okay fair enough I don't know if AstroBin is an indication of the size of the global astrophotography community as a whole, or if it's growth rate mirrors that of the rest of the amateurs who don't use this site. Anyway, before 2020, I saw a growth in number of images uploaded of 15% every year.

For a number of reasons, 2020 has been really good from that point of view, with an estimated growth of +60% compared to 2019.

Oh my. 60%, so very impressive. Particularly after your unfortunate wrestle with data at Amazon. Nice work - keep it up. And thanks for the info.

2020, what a strange year. I suppose more staying home due to the pandemic would lead to more observing. But I expect something long term is going on too.

Onward and upward,
Mark
