Description

This is my third attempt at M33 since I started astrophotography this year. My first try had subs that were too short (60s) and too few (2.7 hours). My second try had the right subs (300s) but still too few (4.1 hours).

I added more data, and now have a result I prefer. (I think my processing may have improved too.) I also threw in a tiny bit of Ha, which really improved things in my opinion. I planned for more Ha, but...clouds. But since I'm just using it to touch up the RGB, I think more Ha may have had a diminishing impact.

Process:

A. RGB:

1. WeightedBatchProcessing, Subframe Selector, Image Registration, Local Normalization, Image Integration, Drizzle Integration, Dynamic Crop

2. Dynamic Background Extraction

3. EZ Denoise

4. ChannelCombination

5. ArchsinhStretch

6. Photometric Color Calibration

7. Dynamic Background Extraction

8. EZ Star Reduce

B. Luminance:

1. Clone G as L

2. ArcsinhStretch

3. Extract wavelet layers and keep the residual layer, then increase contrast with Histogram Transformation, then apply as a mask to L

4. Local Histogram Equalization to increase local contrast

C. RGB (again):

9. Reuse the residual mask created above on the RGB image

10. LRGB Combination to apply L as Luminance to RGB

11. Remove Mask

12. Curves Transformation to increase Luminance contrast and bring out the spiral arms

D. Ha:

1. WeightedBatchProcessing, Subframe Selector, Star Align with RGB image, Image Integration, Drizzle Integration

2. EZ Denoise

3. ArcsinhStretch

E. HaRGB:

13. PixelMath, R: 1-((1-RGB)*(1-Ha)); G: RGB; B: RGB
