Description

M31 V0619 (also known as M31-V1 or BASW 1) might be the most famous Cepheid variable star. Edwin Hubble used exactly this star to determine the distance of the Andromeda galaxy using the period-luminosity relationship in 1923, and proved that M31 is located outside the Milky Way. A milestone in cosmology almost 100 years ago!
