Description

The majestic eagle spreads his wings over the pillars of creation. In this wider field of this famous nebula in Serpens, at 5700 ly distance from Earth, the shape of the flying Eagle is what dominates the picture. It always gives me the impression that he is guarding the precious pillars of creation from any cosmic intruder.

I wanted to image this region for a long time, but it is impossible from my backyard. It is very low in the sky, between 15-33° and the view is blocked by the trees. So, during my vacation in the mountains I thought of bringing the gear with me and take a shot. The sky was really exceptional, it is listed as Bortle 4, but is probably 2-3, you can nicely see the Milky Way. Unfortunately, I had only 1 night of clear skies and I was barely able to gather less than 3h of Ha... This hobby is really frustrating. The only solution of completing the project before next year was to take the gear near the city, where I had a free view of the South. The nebula is really low in the sky, in full orange glow above Toulouse and I could gather 1h of S2 and O3. This is the best I could come up with, hopefully I'll be able to add data next year.
