Description

Hello friends!

NGC 7479 is one of my favourite galaxies from my past visual astronomy sessions, and now I have attempted to photograph this beauty.
This is an interesting type SBc barred spiral galaxy in the constellation of Pegasus with a visual magnitude of 11.0 and an apparent diameter of 4.1'.

This galaxy is unusual and the arms are very much accentuated, and reminds me of the Superman logo.

I captured this data in southeast Manitoba (South Sandilands - c8 edge data) and in a separate location just north of Sandilands park (using my Esprit 120 frac).

It is elongated with a prominent bar and a bright center. Faint arms can be seen arcing outward from the ends of the bar.  NGC 7479 is also a Seyfert galaxy undergoing starburst activity in the nucleus and the outer arms. Polarization studies of this galaxy indicate that it recently underwent a minor merger.

5 hours integration mixing data from two different scopes - a C8 edge and my 120mm Esprit refractor.

180 second subs
65 darks
60 flats
no darkflats
no bias frames

Basic stacking in APP, processed in PI and labelled in Photoshop with some offset tinkering to fix a gradient.  In PI, I  used some of Russell Croman's latest software plugins.

Thanks for looking, hope you like it.
