Description

Due to the wildfire smoke, it's been over two weeks since I was able to image. I had a lot of time to think about what to shoot, but a wide field image of Cassiopeia posted by Sergio Diaz a few days ago, was what motivated this target.

Once you peer through the thick veneer of stars, it is really an interesting region. So, too, is γ-Cas an interesting star. It is a massive Class B star, which I encourage you to read further about! I managed to save the star's color, but only wish I could have captured more of its latent nebulosity. Perhaps next year.

Finally, special thanks to Rodd Dryfoss, who posted an interesting series of thoughts on "saturation" on the forum. That forum discussion was on my mind as I processed this image. By temperament, I tend towards minimalist processing; I find a great deal of natural beauty in the way things are (i.e., as they are directly perceived by the senses).

Other published images in this Cassiopeian Study so far include:

Alpha Cas

Beta Cas

Delta Cas

Epsilon Cas

I hope you enjoy the image and I relish any comments you care to bestow.
