Description

After an unsuccessful attempt to obtain a decent image of M33 with near full moon in the visible spectrum (using an UV/IR CUT filter) with 15 seconds exposures of the Samyang 135 mm at F2 (too much banding and gradients), I retried with an IR bandpass filter (642-842 nm) and the result was way better (perhaps also because the moon was a bit beyond full), with the exception of the quite puffy stars.
Since not all stars are bloated, indeed some are quite punctiform, my guess is that the Samyang lens is not focusing perfectly in the near infrared (after all it is a general photography lens, albeit quite popular in astrophotography) and that some stars have more IR emission that others (this too not a surprise).
