Description

20220309 - Moon Waxing Crescent Sequence Compositon (March 2022, TS94/414)

What’s in the picture(s)
Quote: The moon, earth’s satellite, waxing crescent

What was the experience
For 5 days in a row, at the start of the night, before the imaging sessions of the DSO’s started, I captured the moon. Instead of posting the images separately, I decided to make a quick composition.

The first image (to the right) starts with the moon on March 5th 2022, when the moon was just about 4%. Then consecutively for each day, around the same time on 8pm, with the final image (to the left) taken on 9th March, with the moon at about 37%. The sequence organised in such a way to be similar like the ;moon climbing higher every day.

Unfortunately, the first image is slightly blurry, as the sky was still very much ‘blueish’ and I hadn’t prepared to fine tune the focus on the scope. But I kept it in, for completeness of the sequence.
The images of the following days are all sharp, taken with the L-Enhance, and with some improved processing, I managed to get a better resolution compared to my previous captures with the TS94 scope.

The composition is a bit crude, as I still need to work on some Photoshop skills, but … at least, a nice lunar sequence … for now 😎

How it was done
Scope: TS94 APO (FL 414mm)
Mount: EQ6-R Pro
Camera: ASI2600MC Pro
Filter: L-Enhance
Photons: 20220305-06-07-08-09, 2k frames each, 20% stacked
Processing: AutoStakkert, RegiStax, PixInsight, Photoshop (Mac)

What have I learned from this
By preference, I would’ve wanted to do a little animation, but I’m still lacking the skills for this … a learning point I definitely want to address very shortly

Clear Skies everybody! 🤩✨🔭
