Description

Mars Opposition 2020.

Sporting impressive 22.4" disk Mars displays its Valles Marineris hemisphere less than 40 hours before opposition. First two hours of Tue 13 Oct brought the best seeing conditions thus far this apparition. I have derotated ten consecutive stacks to produce this view taken between 12:05 and 12:45 am Canberra time.

Plenty of detail is seen throughout the disk with Mare Erythraeum and Argyre Basins dominating the south, Pyrrhae Regio at the centre and Niliacus Lacus in the north. VM tributaries crisscross Aurorae Sinus rising in the west. Other prominent albedo features include Oxia Palus, Sinus Meridiani and Sinus Sabaeus setting in the east. South Polar Cap remnant is split into two distinct parts.
