Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a faint face-on barred galaxy located 95 million light years away in the constellation of Cetus at a declination of -1 degrees.  It spans 3 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 80,000 light years.

The interesting core/bar structure - a core surrounded by a small inner lens, with a bar sticking out of both sides of the lens and touching an inner ring - is called a barlens.  A barlens is a face-on view of the X-pattern characteristic of a pseudobulge.  My collection of barlens objects is here.

A faint pseudoring (R1') is seen in the outer disk.
