Description

Sh2 169 is the lower left and Sh2 168 is the upper right.

Sh2 was on my undone list but eventually while working on it I realized the blob in the upper right looked familiar. I eventually came to realize that we shot it with Rob scope two years ago. Thus with a little work we could combine the H-alpha from the two efforts to bring out the duller Sh2 168.

I found a well-done similar image on Astrobin:

Stefan had a nice explanation of the two, which I quote here "with credit":

Large parts of Sh2-168 appear almost completely structureless. The center is much brighter, slightly striped and sits like a shield hump in the middle of the fog. In the northeast, a ragged dark cloud appears to be sliding in front of Sh2-168, making the fog look gnawed. The neighbor Sh2-169 looks completely structureless and is dominated by the stimulating star in its center. In the southeast, the fog is sharply defined, while in other places it diffuses diffusely into the background.
