Description

Hello all,

I decided to try my new L-enhance filter on IC2177 (first light). I've never tried this nebula before, so its my first go.

IC 2177, also known as the Seagull Nebula, is a rather large area of nebulosity between Monoceros and Canis Major. Its about 7.5 degrees northeast of Sirius.

Most of the nebulosity is the Seagull's wings. The Seagull's head, cataloged as NGC 2327 or Sh2-292 is very bright. It surrounds an 8th magnitude star, and also includes some bluish reflection nebulosity catalogued as vdB 93. A prominent dark lane protrudes into NGC 2327 from the eastern side.

Popcorn and water served as snacks. Seeing was good for a change!

Thanks for looking! Any comments are welcome.

Ian
