Description

Gamma Cassiopeia the star commonly called Navi illuminates this wonderful star forming region. As for the star illuminating the nebula,  in the 1960s Ivan Gus Grissom was training for the Apollo missions to the moon and studying star charts needed to navigate the spacecraft.  One bright star had no common name on the NASA charts so he called it 'Navi' -- Ivan spelled backwards.
