Description

This object is a reflection nebula located 1600 light years away in the constellation of Cygnus at a declination of +37 degrees. The nebula spans 13 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 6 light years.

The bright star at the center of the nebula is the 6th magnitude double star 44 Cygni. Most reflection nebulae are blue in color, but the bright white/yellow of this star causes the color of its reflection nebula to be white with hints of yellow.

I like the interesting shape of this reflection nebula. My guess is that local dust and interaction with the ISM is causing the unusual arc patterns.

Although difficult to see in this image, the area surrounding this nebula is filled with faint red emission nebula, including LBN 219 and LBN 226.
