Description

This is a part of the eastern Veil Nebula in Cygnus. A remnant from a supernova explosion that occured 10,000 to 20,000 years ago and it lies approximately 2400 LY's away. Analysis of the emissions from the nebula indicate the presence of hydrogen, sulfur and oxygen although this image only displays the hydrogen (red) and oxygen (blue) emissions. This part of the Veil always reminds me of a snake ready to strike with its fangs. If I could give it a nickname it would be the Fang Nebula.
