Description

This image is a blend of images shoot at 135mm and 200mm around New Years Eve 2021.

It is approximately 3.5 hours of sub-exposures using a Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 A009 lens (at 200mm), and 1 hour of sub exposures using a Samyang 135mm f2.

The camera was a Fujifilm XT-1 full spectrum modified, on a Skywatcher Star Adventurer. Bortle 3/4 Skies

This was a first time using a tracker on Orion, and the first time using the XT-1 for astrophotography. Unfortunately, the XT-1 (purchased used) appears to have a slightly tilted sensor. As such, it has been retired from astrophotgraphy duties. It is now used exclusively for daytime infrared photography, which is not demanding on sensor orthogonality.

I'm not super happy with how this image turned out, but I think its important to publish as a yardstick for future attempts. At the end of this year, I'll definitely be trying again to shoot of this region. I'd like to get more total exposure time (weather permitting, by a factor of 4x) and cover a slightly wider field of view. Stay tuned for that image haha
