Description

At a distance of round about 1.500 lightyears, LDN 1622 lies near the plane of our Milky Way, close to Barnard's Loop, a large cloud surrounding the rich complex of emission nebulae found in the Belt and Sword of Orion.

Due to the outlines of the Dark Nebula it is also called Boogeyman. I think it deserves the name rightly.

I wanted to photograph LDN 1622 for a very long time and could expose it very late in spring for nine nights. I was a bit surprised that all reference images I found were from very dark and mostly remote locations. During image processing I realized why this is so... It was difficult and time consuming to bring out the dark nebula! A real challenge. :-) For a long time I also thought about the color scheme: But this strong red still fits best in my opinion.
