Description

This image shows the Galactic Cluster core of Abell 1367 (ACO 1367). The cluster is also known as the "Leo Cluster". The cluster includes (19) NGC and (2) IC galaxies. The elliptical galaxy NGC 3842 is the cluster's brightest member. The image field encompasses 341 of the greater than 90% probable members. The total cluster membership (within and beyond this image field) is about 572 members. Abell 1367 is known for its high percentage of spiral structured galaxies (whereas many large cluster have a preponderance of elliptical structure galaxies). The full size image has an image scale of 1.70 arcsec/pixel and shows the spiral structure of many of the members. The cluster's center is about 305 million light years distant. These objects and some of the brighter stars are identified in the annotated image. Horizontal FOV is approximately 88 arc minutes. Full size image scale is 1.70 arcsec/pix.
