Description

SH2-157 widefield at the Cas / Cep border

As is well known, there is a vast amount of beautiful night sky objects in the constellation of Cepheus(Cep) and Cassiopeia(Cas). I centered this image on NGC7510 aka "The Dormouse Cluster" to capture 50:50 percent of both constellations' regions.

I used my unmodifiedCanon EOS 7D (1st version, 12+ years old) with a CLS clip-in filter. After 5 hours of integration time, post processing was still very challenging for me. I took this image already this September but only yesterday, after one more of a couple of fresh start-overs and rejects, I could achieve what you see here.

My images of HII regions always seem to lack 'transparency' or a 'feathery lightness'  ... suggestions for improvement are highly appreciated.

Title: Hand made astrometry :-)

Description: During my years as a pure visual observer (i.e. no astrophotography), I used to prepare my observation nights with printed maps like Uranometria or Sky Atlas 2000.

After these observations, I often fleshed out observation reports together with sketches and captions. It was (and still is) one of my ways to relaxation.

This elaborated image version is thus a reminiscence on that time.
