Description

NGC 474 is a post-merger galaxy and a shell galaxy at the southern edge of the constellation Pisces, on the border to the whale. Together with NGC 470 it forms a loose galaxy pair. Probably, interactions between these two galaxies have caused the unusually complex structure of NGC 474 . The galaxy is the central object of the galaxy group Arp 227.
