Nudge Guiding - using modeling plus guiding for precision tracking

Description

This is an example of an imaging system running with an Absolute Encoder Mount using a Tracking Model with the addition of guide pulses for extremely accurate guiding over a series of 1 hour exposures.

The tracking model was created along the path that the object would follow over a 5 hour time period, from low in the East to approximately 1 hour past the meridian overhead. Since the tracking model is typically accurate to about +- 2 arc sec per hour, these long exposures were also gently guided with a very small amount of error correction. The guide star deviation was measured every 15 seconds and small guide pulse was sent to the mount if the error was more than 0.15 arc seconds. The corrections were instant even at this low level because of the absolute encoder feedback system that measures the exact shaft position every 5 milliseconds.

Image scale: 1.28 arc sec per pixel
