Description

Sculptor Galaxy (NGC 253)

Capturing this galaxy from Julian, CA is a challenge. It's only between 15° and 31° for about 6 hours of dark sky during mid October.

Here I used the best 5-minute subs I could capture during this dark cycle. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great and the skies not as steady as I'd like. This example uses 24 x 5 min L between 2.4" and 3.1". RGB subs averaged around 3".

I hope to gather more L subs this week. We'll see how it goes. (-:

Processing is very simple...

Luminance: BlurX, PI Stretch, HDR, DBE, Noise X. USM 200 1 0 applied after I gathered more L.

RGB: DBE, SCC, BlurX, BN, Stretch, NoiseX, Color Stretch

"The Sculptor Galaxy (also known as the Silver Coin, Silver Dollar Galaxy, NGC 253, or Caldwell 65) is an intermediate spiral galaxy in the constellation Sculptor. The Sculptor Galaxy is a starburst galaxy, which means that it is currently undergoing a period of intense star formation."
