Description

This object, also known as LDN 1471, is a dark nebula located in the constellation of Perseus at a declination of +33 degrees. Like most Barnard nebulae, this is a faint rarely imaged object with little detailed information available. The beautiful reflection nebula IC 348 lies just off image to the lower right.

Seen through the dust are the cores of several members of a group of galaxies located 200 million light years away. The bright blue 5th magnitude star 42 Per, 300 light years away, dominates the image.
