Description

After viewing Tristan Campbell's excellent image of the moon in Ha https://www.astrobin.com/c4nymn/, I thought I'd try a little experiment to see which filters worked best with my setup. Part 1 compares my Optolong L-eNhance Tri-narrow band filter - bandwidth ~12nm Ha and 30nm OIII (A) with a Meade IR/UV cut filter (B) and no filter (C). I think the detail and sharpness are clearly better with the narrow band filter, for luminance shots, although it will be interesting to see what impact this has on RGB frames. Which do you think is best?

This image comprises 31 images automatically stacked and tracked by Envisage with 50% quality filter and medium-edge enhance filter applied after 10 frames. Taken at f3 in my 8" SCT, the day 10 waxing gibbous moon offers a wealth of surface detail and at the terminator.
