Description

I chose a darker theme for this image, so thought the Bat Out of Hell was a suitable name. Though there is also the possibility of a dragon, with its mouth gaping at the upper right.

The Bat Nebula is a part of the Veil Nebula, remnants of an enormous stellar conflagration some 10,000 to 20,000 years ago, that has now expanded to cover 3 degrees of the sky, appearing nearly six times the size of the full moon. There is a Hubble video that shows the movement in the nebulosity with respect to distant stars. It can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4JihreUQiI

I processed the image in Startools as SHO to RGB, looking for a HST type image with a good balance of RGB colors. The starless image was made using Starnet++. I used Topaz AI DeNoise lowlight to reduce noise.
