Description

Just received new LRGB filters and wanted to test them on an object which did to require narrowband filters which are still on order.  This was also a test on how much detail could be extracted from dark nebulae in suburban light polluted skies under not very good late summer sky conditions, with imaging frequently interrupted by passing clouds. This object was an afterthought as I was imaging some objects with my old filters.  Initial subframes were rather disappointing compared to similar objects in Southern Hemisphere so moved on to the next object.  After some processing of only 3.25 hours of data I managed to extract the image above.  Now want to go back and acquire some more data (especially blue channel), so this has to be considered work in progress.

Subframes (all 180s): L32, R12, G12, B9.

Processing in Pixinsight WBPP, DynamicCrop, MultiscaleLinearTransform, Deconvolution (parametric PSV, 80 iterations, unmasked), AutoBackgroundExtraction.

RGB Combination, Background Neutralization, HistogramTransformation, PhotometricColourCalibration.

LRGB image: TGVDenoise, MultiscaleMedianTansform (both unmasked), DarkStructureEnhancement, HDRMultiscaleTransform, UnsharpMask (masked), MorphologicalTransform to reduce stars, CurvesTransform for final tweak and to boost saturation and blue channel.

Final denoising with Topaz Denoise AI.
