Description

NGC 4567 and NGC 4568 are about 60 million light-years away from us, so if one day you decide to go for a visit, make sure you have enough supplies with you

I am not a big fan of nicknames for astronomical targets but it is a fact that the human brain remembers much easier names than numbers, I guess this is one of the reasons that my parents decided to give me the name Andreas and not for instance 568751599 So NGC 4567 and NGC 4568 are also known as butterfly or Siamase twin galaxies.

One surprising thing is the colour contrast of both galaxies. It came naturally out by doing a simple sinh stretch in Pixinsight. The L layer constrast was enhanced with a slight HDT process in PI, level 4 and at the end of the processing a slight unsharp mask was applied to the core of the galaxies. Nothing more.

The shots have been done in a quite rapid acquisition mode as the subs were 40s with my former C8 at bin2. Now that I see the picture, I ask myself why I was waiting for more than 4 years to process it. I guess for a long time I did not feel confident enough to process it. Fortunately data are patient
All the best,
Andreas
