Description

So here is my effort for 2021 viral comet, mr Leonard and the last ready to publish image for this year.

300 x 20" subs. Next time I'll definitely add a time gab between subs, for example 1minute, cause I think it will help the rejection algorithm.

After registering all the subs as usual I've created 2 Master Lights:

1. Image Integration to keep stars steady (1st)
2. Comet Alignment to keep the comet nice and clear (2nd)

After stretching to non linear state, I've used StarXTerminator on both images, keeping the stars from the 1st image.

The problem here was that in the 2nd image there were a lot of remaining residuals not cleaned up from the rejection algorithm.

After many, many trials and errors in PixInsight with PixelMath, I finally decided to go with PhotoShop. I've loaded both starless images together and with a brush and a mask I revealed the comet (2nd) on the good sky (1st).

Finally I've used PixelMath to combine PS output with the stars.

So, farewell mr Leonard.
