Description

Just in time for Valentine's Day - the Heart Nebula (IC 1805, Sharpless 2-190)

The Heart Nebula lies some 7500 light years away from Earth. It is located in the Perseus arm of the Galaxy in the constellation Cassiopeia. This is an emission nebula showing glowing gas and darker dust lanes. This nebula is formed by plasma of ionized hydrogen (HII) and free electrons. The hydrogen has been ionized by ultraviolet radiation from young hot stars.

I spent 4 evenings capturing the image, 19 hours total of monochrome data acquisition. There are 5 hours of Hydrogen Alpha data and around 7 hours each of SII and OIII data. Seeing was quite good all three nights, as there is very little transparency to see through the nebula. The image was color assigned using Hubble Palette, preliminary processing and calibration was done with APP and final processing was done with Pixinsight and Lightroom.
