Description

Aaaand another dark sky camping weekend image -- a gorgeous area of Cygnus! On the left we have the enormous North America Nebula, and in the upper right we have a bit of the Gamma Cygni Nebula. The bright star above the North America Nebula is the bright Deneb, one of the three members of the Summer Triangle, and above the Gamma Cygni Nebula is, well, Gamma Cyg, which is also known as Safr. These two stars make up the body of Cygnus, the Swan.

This image was captured with my Nikon D5300 DSLR and Rokinon 135mm lens atop my Vixen Polarie. The Polarie is difficult to accurately polar align without the expensive additional module, so the image drifted over the course of the night, making a sort of continuous mosaic (which I don't think there's a way to stack in PixInsight, but DeepSkyStacker is really good at these using the "mosaic" mode!). It's neat to see how the North America Nebula has more blue reflection nebula than the nebula around Sadr! And I love all the light-absorbing dust -- it really stands out against the uncountable number of stars in the frame.
