Description

This is an image of the Bubble Nebula (NGC7635) in the constellation Cassiopeia and "nearby" friends. It is a hydrogen alpha emission region and is about 10,000 light-years distant. The "bubble" is caused by stellar wind from a massive hot star.

Also in the image is the open cluster M52 about 4,600 light-years away and NGC7538 about 9,100 light-years away in the constellation Cepheus. This nebula contains a gigantic protostar, still acquiring mass from a molecular cloud which is 300 times the size of the solar system.

This is a narrowband image using the Hubble Palette (sulfur = red, hydrogen alpha = green, and oxygen = blue).
