Description

My first baby steps with layer masking. This one was a challenge for me, the entire field is filled with nebulosity (most of it very faint) and stars.

Luminance: 115 subs @ 180 seconds
H-a: 100 subs @ 180 seconds
Red: 37 subs @ 180 seconds
Green: 36 subs @ 180 seconds
Blue: 41 subs @ 180 seconds

Title: Revised IC 417 - The Spider and the Fly Nebula

Description: I have been wanting to reprocess this one for some time, the stars were just so overwhelming (among other things). Going back and looking at the data, many of the subs were a bit weak so I culled them, as well as not using any of the Luminance subs. This is what was left:

H: 60 x 300s
R: 37 x 180s
G: 36 x 180s
R: 41 x 180s

Total Exposure 10h 42m

Title: IC 417 Spider Nebula - PixInsight Reprocessed

Description: Another old image revised in PixInsight. NSG really does not like a lot of my older subs, but it still amazes me that the final result with less data is better. And of course, another year of processing experience helps too ;-)

On this particular image, I was having trouble combining the Luminance frames with the RGB. Finally, I decided just to use the H-a data for pseudo luminance and it all worked out ...

Originally, I thought the Fly portion of this nebula was the structures in the lower right corner of the frame. To my eye, it was the broad head of a fly (with two antenna) having a stare-down with the spider. I didn't realize until later that the Fly refers to NGC 1931 which falls outside of the original framing.

Title: IC417 Spider Nebula Revised

Description: A minor revision of one of my earlier images, more practice while Arizona monsoon season continues. Went for a small detail boost and color adjustment. Blended Ha into the Red channel 60:40 then used the Ha as a Luminance layer. Instead of using CurvesTransformation for the color adjustments and saturation, I used GHS.
