NGC 1977 - NGC 1981
Running man Nebula, ou NGC 1977 é um aglomerado aberto com nebulosidade, localizado na constelação de Orion, muito próximo a inúmeros objetos bastante conhecidos. Foi descoberto por William Herschel em 1786, usando um telescópio refletor de 18 polegadas de abertura. Está a cerca de 1460 anos-luz de distância.
É uma região muito ativa, com intensa formação de Protoestrelas.
A luz das estrelas jovens do aglomerado refletem o gás do ambiente fazendo assim aparecer essa bela nebulosidade de reflexão. A brilhante estrela HD 37018 (42Ori) tem entre 2 e 4 milhões de anos.
As faixas mais escuras de gás hidrogênio Ionizado em vermelho brilhante, formam uma silhueta do "homem correndo".
NGC 1981, foi descoberto em 1827 por John Herschel.

Running man Nebula, or NGC 1977 is an open cluster with nebulosity, located in the constellation of Orion, very close to numerous well-known objects.
It was discovered by William Herschel in 1786 using an 18-inch reflector telescope. It is about 1460 light years away.
It is a very active region, with intense formation of Protostars.
The light from the young stars in the cluster reflects off the surrounding gas, thus making this beautiful reflection nebulosity appear.
The bright star HD 37018 (42Ori) is between 2 and 4 million years old.
The darkest bands of bright red Ionized hydrogen gas form a "running man" silhouette.
NGC 1981, was discovered in 1827 by John Herschel.
