Description

My first Hubble image. Thanks to Ruben Barbosa for providing the link. I am at my wits end--the clouds are unrelenting. This image is unusual it seems for Hubble--many Hubble images have deep backgrounds loaded with faint and not so faint galaxies. Not this image, however. I don't know if that is because this represents a particularity distant group pf galaxies, or if it is due to only one sub per channel. I tried adding Ha--but the Ha sub was quite weak and noisy. I am fascinated by the clarity of the interaction between these galaxies. I am also intrigued by the two reddish galaxies in the image--one fairly large, elongated spindle at right, and one, small spiral upper left. Both of these are quite red, either from a large red shift, or poor processing! I do wish there was more data as parts of the image are noisy and rough-not like many polished Hubble images.

I am not sure it is real, or just a processing artifact, but the tidal connection between the two galaxies is red on the left half (closer to the galaxy on left) and blue on the right side (closer to the galaxy on the right). If this is a true depiction, it is pretty interesting.
