Description

This imaging project is a reprocess of data collected in September of 2021 of DWB 111/119 - The Propeller Nebula - 10 hours in SHO.

The Propeller Nebula is a region of emission and dark nebulae located in the Cygnus X Complex - about 4600 light-years from Earth.

I was never completely happy with the original image - thinking it looked like a pastel painting and a bit overdone.  I wanted to see if new tools and techniques could do better. You can see that image below:

I must admit that I had a hard time with this image.   Some images practically process themselves.  Others, like this one, are a struggle.

My initial reprocess version was pretty understated for me - given that I am a high-color guy.  But as I shared this early version for feedback, several suggestions were made for improvement, and I returned to the drawing board.

Here was my initial attempt:

I am done with the project with this last version of the image. I am unsure how much I helped or improved this image - you must judge that.  But I have spent enough time on it for now and am closing this effort.  I think the overall detail and color level have improved, but some may still like the look of the original image better.

The story of this reprocess  - along with full processing details and a step-by-step walkthrough of the processing steps can be found here:
