Description

I spent some extra effort to get the Crescent Nebula, NGC 6888, centered in this image, and I like how it turned out. I'm fascinated with how some of the nebula is clearly red while other parts that look just as bright appear colorless. However, I have a lot to learn about color balance, so who knows what this image might look like if I knew what I was doing?

This is a rare kind of nebula formed by strong winds blowing mass away from the very powerful and obvious central Wolf-Rayet star, WR 136. This wind-blown material is likely crashing into material that was ejected earlier in the star's life, causing a pile-up that forms the nebula's beautifully complex shape.
